Botkins council swears in three members; Craig Brown elected council president

Mayor Lance Symonds called the Village of Botkins council meeting to order Jan. 14 and swore in newly elected council members Craig Brown, Kevin Market and Nick Greve. The council also appointed Christian Petek to fill a vacancy; the motion to appoint Petek was made by Jake Roberts and seconded by Craig Brown, and it passed unanimously.
Following swearing-in and roll call, councilors cast votes to elect Craig Brown as the 2026 council president. The meeting record shows unanimous agreement on routine procedural items: the evening's agenda, the Dec. 10, 2025 minutes and the December 2025 financial statements were each approved without recorded dissent.
The reorganization establishes the council's leadership for 2026 and places Petek on the dais after his appointment. Village Administrator Randy Purdy was present for the meeting and Fiscal Officer Hannah Paul prepared the minutes. The council adjourned at the close of its agenda.
