Oak Park MAC elects Derek Ross chair, hears sheriff and county updates; routine items approved

At its Jan. 25, 2011 meeting the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council elected Derek Ross chair and Mike Mc Reynolds vice chair, heard an update from newly elected Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean on budget pressures and outreach tools, approved routine minutes and adjourned to Feb. 22.
The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council on Jan. 25 elected Derek Ross to serve as its 2011 chair and selected Mike Mc Reynolds as vice chair in unanimous votes, received a public-safety update from newly elected Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean and approved routine procedural items including agenda adoption and minute approval.
The meeting, held at Oak Park High School, opened at 7:05 p.m. under Chair Mike Green. The MAC adopted the agenda 5-0 on a motion by Michael Paule, seconded by Derek Ross, and later approved the Dec. 21, 2010 minutes 5-0 on a motion by Alon Glickstein, seconded by Derek Ross.
Sheriff Geoff Dean, introduced to the MAC earlier in the meeting, said he is "honored to serve" as Ventura County’s newly elected sheriff and described steps taken to respond to potential state budget cuts, including reducing his command staff to preserve patrol resources. He warned the MAC members about the possibility of early release of low-level state prisoners into communities and emphasized cooperative "team policing." He also promoted the VCSD's e-watch email alerts and Reverse 911 notification programs for neighborhood safety.
Supervisor Linda Parks briefed the council on county leadership transitions, the county’s acceptance into a new regional library system (allowing Ventura County residents to use Los Angeles and Orange County public library resources), plans for pavement rehabilitation on Oak Park's west side in summer 2011 and County efforts to consolidate public-transportation routes with an eye toward service on Kanan Road.
During public comment, residents raised local issues including a malfunctioning traffic signal at Oak Hills Drive and Kanan Road and poor pavement near Hawthorne and Red Oak Elementary; MAC members said pothole reports had been filed and repaving was scheduled for the summer. The MAC adjourned at 9:43 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2011.
