Ventura supervisor warns state budget uncertainty threatens county revenues, law enforcement

Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks briefed the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council Feb. 22 on county concerns about the State budget and local planning needs, saying reductions in sales tax revenue and the prospect of early prisoner releases are the biggest potential impacts on law enforcement and probation departments.
Parks described a recent community dinner in Oak Park that featured Los Angeles Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and said comparing the two counties highlighted how State budget uncertainties are affecting local services. She noted County plans to paint sharrows on Kanan Road this summer after pavement overlays and agreed it is important to coordinate that work with nearby water-tank construction.
In response to questions about cell-tower height limits in Oak Park, Parks said an Area Plan update could be combined with a broader update of Ventura County General Plan zoning for Oak Park and that she would examine the costs to process such changes. She confirmed a Board of Supervisors hearing on the Oak Park Chabad was still scheduled for March 1 and said she would not prioritize a new county anti-scavenging ordinance at this time.
Parks’ remarks were presented as informational; the MAC did not take a formal vote on county planning priorities at the meeting.
