Gates reports summer camp bookings, GCSD to provide meals; farmer's market set for first and third Sundays

Director Dan Hoock updated the commission May 12 on summer programs and community activities. He said all camp sites except Lions Park are fully booked for the summer; Lions Park still has a few openings. Hoock said Gates Central School District (GCSD) will supply breakfast and lunch each day camps operate.
Hoock listed seasonal hires for camp staff, noting many are returning employees or volunteers, and invited commissioners to staff orientation sessions on June 29 (new staff) and June 30 (all staff). He also said a Food Link truck pop-up in Gates was well received and may return when dates are available.
Hoock announced a Farmer's Market will occur the first and third Sundays of the month at the Gates Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. He reported the Badges & Buckets event on May 2 suffered low turnout because of cool, damp weather but attendees enjoyed donated food and basketball prizes from Walmart; the commission said it would consider holding the event again, possibly later in May or early June.
