Commission reviews Lions Park bathroom payment, playground work and possible dock funding from 'Friends' group

Dan Hoock reported May 12 that a $40,000 entry in the capital account (Code A00-7140-2000 Playgrds-Capital Equip.) represents the second 40% payment requested by the vendor for new bathrooms at Lions Park. Hoock said the vendor had requested payment in installments of 10%/40%/40%/10% and that this $40,000 is the second 40% installment.
Commissioners discussed other park projects. Hoock said playground work at Memorial Park, a swing set replacement, and the new bathroom placement at Lions Park will proceed once weather and ground conditions allow, with a target to begin by the end of May. Chair Brom Bianchi raised potholes on the unpaved road into First Responders Park, and Hoock said he would report the road condition to the Highway Department.
Hoock said the volunteer "Friends" group that has raised funds for the department over the years is considering disbanding; remaining treasury funds would be transferred to the department. He suggested those monies could be used toward a new floating dock system at Lions Park but did not state the remaining balance of the group's treasury (not specified). Hoock also said he is researching options for maintaining healthy ponds and will provide further information at a later meeting.
The commission voted unanimously to accept the finance report earlier in the meeting; that vote included acceptance of the capital expenditures as presented. Commissioners asked that planned improvements and options for Memorial Park be prioritized once a grant-funded plan is developed and that commission input will be requested when specific proposals are available.
