Oak Park MAC meeting: tributes to Marie Panec, new librarian welcomed, sheriff’s captain introduced

The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council opened its May 3 meeting with expressions of sorrow for the recent death of Oak Park Unified School District board member Marie Panec. Supervisor Linda Parks, Council members and public commenters praised Panec’s community service; Jan Iceland said scholarships would be established in her honor.
Chair Ross and MAC members welcomed Laurie Dunning as the new librarian of the Oak Park Library. The council also introduced and welcomed Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Captain Frank O'Hanlon as the new captain in charge of patrol for the Oak Park area; Captain Brent Kerr had led the flag salute earlier in the meeting.
Student Liaison Anisha Rajavel reported that STAR testing had begun in local schools and noted an upcoming open house at Medea Creek Middle School. Several MAC members and public commenters raised recent graffiti incidents and encouraged residents to report new graffiti to the Sheriff’s Department; members also thanked law enforcement for prior assistance.
CHP Officer Steve Hunsaker raised concerns about traffic congestion around Medea Creek Middle School during drop‑off and pick‑up times and suggested signage to prevent blocking neighborhood driveways; members suggested notifying the Oak Park Unified School District of the concern.
Chair Ross adjourned the meeting in honor of Marie Panec to the next scheduled meeting on May 24.
