Ventura County Transportation outlines Dial‑A‑Ride service, Board to consider provider change in June

Kathy Connell of the Ventura County Transportation Department told the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council on March 22 that the county plans to ask the Board of Supervisors in June 2011 to consider contracting with Agoura Hills to consolidate Dial‑A‑Ride service.
The service, Connell said, is open to anyone and currently provides about 1,700–1,800 rides per month for Oak Park residents and Agoura Hills connections. "The Dial‑A‑Ride service is open to anyone, and has 1700‑1800 riders monthly in Oak Park," Connell said. She said an in‑area trip costs $1.50 and vehicles aim to arrive within 30 minutes of a call. Weekday hours are roughly 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday service runs about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there is no Sunday service.
Connell noted state sales tax revenues are among the funding sources for the program and that direct trips to Thousand Oaks are available at a higher fare for qualifying riders; other riders can be taken to a transfer point for connections to other public transportation. The proposed contracting change would move the service back to Agoura Hills, which previously ran the service in the 1980s before Thousand Oaks Cab was contracted three years ago.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the contracting change in June 2011; the MAC received the update for local awareness and coordination. The presentation was drawn from county transportation staff materials provided to the MAC.
