Windham Conservation Commission adopts mission statement, approves signage purchase and schedules maintenance workdays

At its April 23 meeting the Windham Conservation Commission adopted a mission statement developed at an April 16 workshop, approved purchase of 10 'Closed Dusk to Dawn' signs for $950, scheduled volunteer and maintenance activities, and recorded updates on pond and dam sites.
Kara Feldberg read the draft mission statement into the record and Vice Chair Wayne Morris moved to accept it; Committee member Dave Curto seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Feldberg then presented quotes for dusk-to-dawn closed signs and moved to approve spending $950 for ten signs; Vice Chair Wayne Morris seconded and the Commission approved the purchase 5-0.
Maintenance items discussed included a reported water-level drop at Nashua Road Pond. Dennis Senibaldi, General Services Manager, contacted Chair Michael Specian; Scott Johnson and Chair Specian checked and cleared the leveler, which left the water level below the granite steps. Secretary Kara Feldberg will take photographs and send them to Skip Lisle to assess whether his system can work there.
The Commission reviewed trails items: the Trails Committee discussed the Greenway plan presented by Timothy Laport (The Dubay Group) and considered scraping and re-grading the Castle Hill parking lot. Vice Chair Morris mentioned coordination with Brian Harvey on scraping Golden Meadow parking; commissioners set a workday for Saturday, May 2, 2026, and asked Dennis Senibaldi about blue bags for cleanup.
On Fessenden Dam, Vice Chair Morris and Mr. Griffin (Chair of HDCHC) met with a landscape architect who will provide a quote; HDCHC will fund that quote. Chair Michael Specian said he will present fencing material options to the Board of Selectmen on May 11, 2026. The Commission noted that benches have been ordered and that Mr. Scott Johnson is arranging a tractor for brush removal ahead of a dedication day.
The Commission approved the April 9, 2026 meeting minutes on the record and adjourned at 8:50 PM after a motion by Kara Feldberg, seconded by Dave Curto; the adjournment motion passed 5-0.
