Parks & Recreation Director J.C. Kennedy provided the Park Advisory Board an overview of required training from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Risk Management Service Agency on open government topics.
Kennedy told the board that the RMSA requires all elected officials, boards and commissions, and appointed records officers to receive training on open public meetings, public records requests, and records retention and to take refresher training every three years. He presented two PowerPoint training modules: guidance from the Washington State Attorney General's Office on open public records and meetings and records-management basics from the Washington Secretary of State Archives. Board members signed certificates indicating they had completed the training modules.
The training and signed certificates fulfill the board's stated RMSA training obligations; there was no separate action beyond acknowledging completion.
