Litchfield finance committee weighs swapping proposed behavioral coordinator for a science teacher in FY27 budget

The Regional School District No. 20 Joint Finance Committee and Board of Education met on Feb. 19, 2026, in Litchfield to continue review of the proposed FY27 budget, focusing on classified salaries, benefits and learning programs. Superintendent Jeffrey Villar opened the discussion by describing the Behavioral/Climate Coordinator role and its funding background and offering an alternative to not fund that new position and instead add a science teacher at Lakeview High School to reduce the number of teachers carrying a sixth assignment.
CFO Julia Cardillo completed review of Category 2 (Classified Salaries), Category 3 (Benefits) and Category 4 (Learning Programs), responding to questions from committee members about elementary administrative assistant staffing levels, whether a per-pupil supplies allocation could be set to promote equity across schools, and the timing of contracts scheduled for negotiation in the coming year. The meeting record shows the committee did not take a final vote on staffing changes or budget allocations during this session.
Earlier on the agenda, Krista Rizzo moved to approve the Joint Finance Committee & Board of Education meeting minutes of Jan. 29, 2026; Margaret Hunt seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The committee announced it will resume the FY27 review at its next meeting and begin consideration of Categories 5 (Tuition), 6 (Transportation), 8 (Administrative Services) and 9 (Maintenance).
