Urbana council swears in members, elects Mrs. Bean president pro tempore and confirms 2026 liaisons

President Paul called the City of Urbana Regular Session to order at 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 6. Judge Gregory Harvey swore in re-elected council members Ms. Jumper, Mr. Davis, Mrs. Collier and Mrs. Bean for their council seats.
Ms. Truelove moved to nominate Mrs. Bean as president pro tempore for the 2026 council year; Mr. Scott and Mrs. Collier seconded the motion and Mrs. Bean accepted the nomination. With no other nominations, the council voted by roll call with Mr. Scott, Mr. Davis, Ms. Truelove, Mrs. Collier, Mrs. Bean and Ms. Jumper voting yes, electing Mrs. Bean president pro tempore.
Mr. Scott then moved that Roger Steffan continue to serve as council clerk for 2026; Ms. Jumper seconded and a roll-call vote confirmed Steffan.
Council Clerk Steffan read the department liaison assignments for 2026: Safety/Police/Fire to Mrs. Collier; Economic/Community Development to Mr. Thackery; Public Works/Water/Sewer/Engineering to Mr. Scott; Zoning/Nuisance/Enforcement to Mrs. Bean; Budget/Finance/Administration/Human Resources/Parks to Mr. Davis; Airport/Cemetery to Ms. Jumper; and Law to Ms. Truelove. No members requested changes and the assignments were finalized.
The meeting proceeded to routine business and votes later in the agenda. The council adjourned at 6:18 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
