The Trenton Parks and Recreation Board received updates Nov. 18 on Veterans Memorial fundraising, the board’s first Veterans Memorial 5K, possible relocation questions for the memorial and the status of the community splash pad installation.
Miss Moore reported the 5K drew 43 registrants (33 pre-registered, 10 day-of) and netted $1,293; organizers noted a $100 profit from T-shirt sales and said food-truck timing should be adjusted next year. Board members also described a nearly 300-piece mailing campaign to solicit donations and City-wide distribution of promotional coasters to encourage brick purchases for the memorial.
Members discussed whether the memorial should be moved to the new city-building site to reduce excavation and grading costs; staff said the city-building site appears flatter and might save on excavation but stressed there are no written estimates or construction documents and that any cost savings are speculative.
On the splash pad, Service Director Brad Baker said the vendor Major Enterprises is coordinating with the installer (PSS) and that all splash-pad materials from manufacturer Vortex are on site; staking and mobilization were pending completion of other projects and weather, but city staff are prepared to perform the water tap and installation once crews mobilize.
Next steps: the board will continue fundraising outreach for the Veterans Memorial, track 5K follow-ups, and await final mobilization dates for splash-pad installation.
