At its June 2 meeting the Torrington City Council handled several routine and substantive items: it approved a zoning ordinance on third reading for the DSI Subdivision, waived the special-event permit fee for a truck show at City Park, accepted a proclamation designating June as National Safety Month, approved the consent agenda and bills, received a fire-department operations update, and convened an executive session to discuss potential litigation.
On land use, the council approved an ordinance amending the zoning map to establish I-1 zoning for Lot 1 and C-1A for Lot 2 of the DSI Subdivision. Mr. Estes told the council there was no public comment and recommended approval. Councilman Deal moved for approval on third reading; Councilman Kelly seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
For special events the council approved a Trucks and Tikes show permit for June 27, 2026 (setup 9 a.m.; event 10 a.m.–4 p.m.) at City Park and waived the permit fee. Chief Johnson described the event logistics, saying it would include food and children’s activities and "probably up to 30 pickup trucks." He and Assistant Chief Cody Scott assured the council parking near the fire station would not interfere with volunteer response.
The council accepted Mayor Dobey’s reading of a proclamation declaring June 2026 as National Safety Month and approved the mayor’s signing. The consent agenda and the list of bills were approved by voice vote; the clerk treasurer confirmed an extended warranty on a new electrical-department skid steer covers 2,000 hours (60 months) with a $200 deductible.
Assistant Chief Cody Scott reported the department recently implemented the I Am Responding app to integrate dispatch alerts, mapping and hydrant overlays to better coordinate volunteer responses and mutual aid; firefighters will attend a hands-on class in Cheyenne this weekend. During the meeting council members praised local cemetery volunteers for their Memorial Day preparations.
Councilman Diehl moved and Councilman Vick seconded that the council enter executive session to discuss potential litigation; the council approved the motion and later returned to open session without public detail. Mayor Dobey then adjourned the meeting.
