Board leaders described a profile developed during the search that prioritized a relationship-focused servant leader who would support teachers and strengthen ties with families and the community. The board president said participants in the process included eight meetings with students, multiple staff sessions, two community meetings and assistance from the Hamilton County Educational Service Center.
Dr. Stewart, who has worked in the district since 2007 and has served as interim superintendent since last fall, accepted the appointment in the meeting and thanked teachers, staff and families for their support. “As I step into this role, I do so with a servant-leader mindset,” she said, describing her priority as supporting staff and centering decisions on students.
Board members moved and seconded the motion to approve Dr. Stewart’s contract and recorded unanimous affirmative votes. The board also approved the superintendent’s written report and related personnel actions during the same session.
The approval concludes a hiring process the board said emphasized community input; the district plans a formal transition with Dr. Stewart remaining in the interim role through the end of the current school year.
