A Covington resident raised ongoing sewer concerns at the Feb. 3 council meeting, prompting the village administrator to describe current monitoring and next steps for the wastewater system.
At the meeting, resident Vonda Kesler, of 319 N. Main Street, told council she is experiencing sewer-related problems at her home. Village Administrator Tyler Rench said wastewater department crews now check low-flow areas on a weekly basis, and he said a long-term plan to correct low-flow issues is being developed.
Rench also reported that the village's wastewater treatment plant is now operating with its SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system online, and that demolition of the old wastewater plant is expected to begin within 45 to 60 days once preparations are complete. He said the timing of some work depends on parts and weather.
The administrator did not provide a schedule for when specific repairs affecting individual properties would be completed. Council did not vote on any immediate repairs during the meeting. The village said the long-term plan is under development and will be the next procedural step for addressing low-flow areas.
