ECAHF outlines 2027 gala ideas, Fly-In and community outreach; police to supply school supplies at Aug. 14 Fly‑In

The Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation board discussed event and outreach planning at its May 1 meeting, highlighting a Feb. 19, 2027 gala, a proposed Strike Fighter League demonstration and the Aug. 14 Fly-In.

Chairman Tom Braaten said the board wants speakers and event topics identified by July to support marketing. Guy Nelson proposed inviting the Strike Fighter League, a professional air combat league for virtual pilots, to bring two simulators and perform live dogfight demonstrations at the gala to promote STEM engagement; Nelson said he would send additional information to the board as he researches the opportunity.

Pam Holder reviewed marketing efforts already under way for the Aug. 14 Fly-In and said the Havelock Police Department will provide free school supplies collected via its 'Stuff the Patrol Car' initiative and asked for help promoting the event and securing volunteers. The board agreed to request the same booth used last year and to recruit volunteers to staff outreach tables and tours.

Rich Hazlett said the flight simulator exhibit now has a 'Buttkicker' seat vibration attachment to enhance visitor experience; Hazlett also plans to install updated description cards and added a new uniform to the display ahead of Salute to the Vets.

The board confirmed an Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation tour for June 24 and volunteer support for an Onslow County Recreation teen tour July 15. Rhonda Murray reported Holly Tolston has been selected as the Blue Angels Key Influencer for the upcoming air show.
