Superintendent outlines storm-damage negotiations and urges patience on site-plan decisions

Superintendent Mrs Cody told the board that the district’s public adjuster and the insurer (Selective) have submitted widely divergent estimates for storm damage repair work and that negotiations are underway.
Administration said Train(e) Inc (the district’s public adjuster) provided an estimate far in excess of Selective’s figure. The superintendent said a negotiation call was scheduled for the coming Friday with Selective, the district and the public adjuster to establish a timeline and clarify the statement of loss for each school before sending work out to bid.
Mrs Cody explained that state procurement rules require taking projects out to bid and that any contractor selected must have the bonding capacity for the work. She said the board will have discretion about whether to bundle repairs into one large contract or break the work into smaller projects, noting each approach has fiscal implications.
Because the site plan for the Brush Secondary Campus is still under discussion with the city and may have multiple iterations, Mrs Cody recommended tabling the greenhouse site-plan decision until the city conversation and legal review are complete. The board agreed to table the greenhouse item for further review.
Mrs Cody also reported the district had received storm-related funds that will remain in the fund until the board authorizes payment to contractors; she said administration will return with additional details after negotiations and any required bids are complete.
