Committee debates consolidating boards and hears airport RFP timing

Chair Larry Roller proposed consolidating Halifax County’s committee structure to reduce the number of meetings and improve efficiency, and committee members discussed removing voting authority from non-Board participants while retaining subject matter experts and department heads as ex officio participants. Supervisor Dennis Witt emphasized keeping the structure simple and reiterated that committee appointments are the responsibility of the Board Chair. County Administrator Ron Brade said staff would revise the proposed structure based on feedback and provide updated drafts before the next meeting.

The committee briefly discussed recruitment for the Emergency Services Director and an interest in forming an interview committee. Mr. Brade also reported that the Request for Proposals for airport management services is under review by the law firm Sands Anderson and is expected to be released shortly after legal review is complete; no release date was specified.
