Norwich Township trustees on Dec. 2 approved employment resolutions for Fire Chief Dave Baird and Assistant Fire Chief Wells and authorized several fire-department equipment purchases and service agreements.
Chief Dave Baird told trustees that he was hired in 2002 and Assistant Fire Chief Wells in 2000, and reported 632 runs in November. He said 10 of 11 new hires have met employment conditions; eight are scheduled to start Dec. 15 and the remaining new hire will start Dec. 29. The board approved resolutions clarifying the terms and conditions of employment for Chief Baird and Assistant Chief Wells (Motions #251202.06 and #251202.07).
Trustees approved capital purchases for the fire department: station alerting hardware for Station 84 ($55,983.51, Westnet, capital budget item #251202.08), a Quantifit 2 fit testing machine ($14,500, #251202.09), and installation of an audible/visual alarm on a hot box at Station 84 ($10,880, #251202.11). Chief Baird said the alerting equipment would notify only the duty crew when their apparatus is dispatched and that the Quantifit replaces older fit-testing equipment.
Separately, after Mount Carmel notified the township it would no longer provide occupational health services, trustees approved a 2026 occupational health agreement with Memorial Health for $99,876 (about a $35,000 increase over prior costs), which will provide pre-employment and annual physicals for township personnel (#251202.12).
All motions were approved by recorded votes as part of the board's consent and regular agenda; the meeting record lists the motions by item number for reference. The record does not indicate any conditions attached to the equipment purchases or the employment resolutions.
