Planning Director Missy Lueck said the Lowcountry hazard mitigation plan, prepared through the Lowcountry Council of Governments, covers Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties and was last adopted by the town council in October 2021. She described the repetitive loss area analysis and a 5-year update to the town's program for public information, explaining that the town remains a CRS Class 5 community and that continued activity under the plan preserves a 25% discount on flood insurance for properties in the special flood hazard area.
Lueck asked the committee to forward the hazard mitigation plan annual update and repetitive loss area analysis to council for information and to adopt the 2025 program for public information by resolution. A committee member made a motion to move the updates and the resolution to full council; the motion passed by voice vote.
The town will forward the documents and the resolution to council for formal action; no substantive objections were raised during the committee discussion.
