West Union mayor announces police chief resignation; council accepts and sets hiring timeline

Mayor Jason Buda read a resignation letter from Chief of Police Larry Anderson at the Jan. 27 council meeting. The letter stated: "I no longer accept the duties and responsibilities of the position of Chief of Police for The Village of West Union. I am writing this letter due to the lack of support of The West Union Village Council and Mayor. Larry Anderson."
Council voted to accept the resignation by motion with a roll-call vote recorded as unanimous. Members then discussed how to advertise the opening: posting on the village Facebook page and OhioMeansJobs, accepting both resumes and applications, and leaving salary undefined to be set based on experience.
Council set a Feb. 13 application deadline and assigned the personnel committee (Jason Francis, Donna Young and Ryan Myers) to conduct interviews and recommend finalists, with a tentative post-interview review at a Finance Committee meeting followed by a personnel committee meeting for interviews on Feb. 16. The council asked applicants to submit materials to the fiscal officer's office.
The council did not discuss interim policing arrangements in the public minutes. The meeting closed with scheduling for committee review and hiring steps.
