Police: ~15 properties damaged in Waynesfield vandalism; investigation continues

"So far most of the property owners have not wanted to pursue anything... we had roughly 15 properties plus village and construction crew property that was that was damaged," the police representative said, noting that new evidence arrived and the department expects to present the material to the prosecutor in the coming weeks.
The officer also stated that the department has suspects and that "they are not juveniles," a detail council members said influenced how the village is approaching the case. The officer characterized likely charges as misdemeanor-level offenses but noted each damaged property could represent a separate count.
Council members discussed the potential for civil liability by property owners and the village’s interest in demonstrating that damage to public property would not be tolerated. The police said charges — if filed — would be at the prosecutor’s discretion and that any suspect names and charges would be publicly released after the prosecutor proceeds.
