Waynesfield advances playground and splash-pad plans and agrees to seek a walking-path renaming resolution

The Waynesfield Village Council's park committee reported progress on plans to install new playground equipment and a splash pad, and council voted to bring a walking-path renaming resolution to the next meeting.
Park committee members said playground equipment can be ordered with delayed delivery and that the splash pad will be ordered as late as practical so storage time is minimized. Committee members recommended storing received equipment at village facilities if installers are not immediately available. A committee representative described lead times of eight to 12 weeks for playground shipments and said installers expect spring installation is preferable.
Council asked administrative staff practical questions about contracting and insurance. Administrator Aaron Bender told the council the warranty for equipment begins when the project is finished and that unopened crates remain the supplier’s responsibility; he noted the village’s umbrella insurance would cover a portion of loss if damage occurred while in storage. “The warranty starts once the project is finished,” Bender said.
Councilors raised security concerns and asked staff to consider enhanced camera coverage or emergency call boxes on remote sections of the walking path; members referred operational security specifics to the appropriate committee to avoid discussing sensitive details in open session.
On memorialization, park and committee members described fundraising of roughly $6,000 for a veterans-themed memorial and proposed two possible names for the walking path, including options invoking Blue/Gold Star mothers and a veterans memorial theme. Committee members said they will work with veterans’ organizations and potential grant sources and bring a resolution to the next council meeting asking the council to rename the walking path (final name to be determined by the committee before the meeting).
Other items: Administrator Bender invited council to an Oct. 7 open house for Little Prairie Learning Center, and council authorized staff to advertise bids for village farmland.
