Covington sets Schoolhouse Park opening for May 16–17; streets to close, several community events noted

Mayor Lee Harmon and Interim Village Administrator Tim Cline outlined community events and operational steps tied to the Schoolhouse Park opening scheduled for May 16–17.
Cline said the Village will close University, Maple and Buccaneer Way on May 16–17; affected addresses have been sent letters and a second mailing will follow once exact times are set. The Village plans additional mailings and a social-media push in April to notify residents. Councilman Martin Leistner said the youth baseball program and other organizations will participate in the opening events.
The Historical Society asked to hold the Memorial Day parade and the Council agreed, recorded as having no objections. Cline reminded the public that Pancake Day, hosted by Covington Tomorrow, will be held Saturday at the elementary school from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and noted a spaghetti dinner the following night.
Cline also reported the police department has been pursuing new in-cruiser hotspots; Officer Russel and Sergeant Zuhl made contacts with Verizon to upgrade equipment and said doing so cut overall costs by about one-third. A Verizon representative reached out to the Village about potential placement of a cell tower; staff are working to find a suitable location.
