Brush board hears curriculum adoption plans and facility updates including hoop repairs and interactive‑board quotes

The School District No. Re‑2 Brush board received multiple informational reports about curriculum planning and facilities needs that the administration will track and return on.

Kimble, representing the curriculum council, told the board the elementary adoption cycle recommends a new handwriting resource for K–5 and a music curriculum called Game Plan for next year; preschool will keep Handwriting Without Tears and secondary science adoption was delayed a year while graduation requirements are clarified. Kimble said vendor quotes and budget estimates will be brought to the curriculum committee in January with formal presentations scheduled for February or March.

On facilities, the district reported engineered drawings for a structural hang‑point issue affecting several basketball hoops in the older gym. Two hoops had already been removed after the inspection; the facilities director said engineered repairs were being priced and that staff would seek bids and consider temporary portable hoops if necessary. The board discussed possible supplemental fundraising or partnerships to offset costs and asked staff to return cost estimates for repair versus alternatives.

Administrators also described interactive‑board failures across the district, presented vendor quotes and recommended refreshing the secondary campus fleet while reallocating functioning panels to elementary buildings. A favorable vendor quote was noted to expire December 23; administrators urged the board to consider timing in acquisition decisions.

A separate facilities item noted a greenhouse purchased in 2022 may not meet current code wind‑rating requirements; staff will consult the Division of Fire and Safety to resolve compliance questions.
