The Berlin City Council on June 9 approved a series of routine and itemized actions, including an alcohol license transfer, special event permits, a cemetery lighting purchase and the wastewater facility's annual compliance report.
Alcohol license: The council granted a Class B beer and Class B liquor license to HS LLC for premises identified as 116 North Kron Street, conditioned on (1) full unconditional surrender of the current license, (2) proof of ownership or owner approval for issuance, (3) payment of applicable fees and any delinquencies, (4) issuance of a state seller’s permit, and (5) satisfaction of all conditions within 30 days or the approval is void. The motion passed.
Special event permit and concessions: The council approved a special events permit for Street Cruisers, Inc. to hold the 39th annual car show at Riverside Park on August 9, 2026, and separately approved the Berlin Fire Department’s request to sell fermented malt beverages at the event under state statute 125.06 and resolution 13-21.
Cemetery lighting: The council approved a request from the Open Cemetery Board to purchase and install additional lighting for the chapel, bell tower and archway at Riverside Cemetery at a city cost not to exceed $5,140. Staff noted a previously approved $10,000 project remained under budget and the board sought funding for additional fixtures; city staff said the city would assume ongoing maintenance and electric costs.
Wastewater compliance report: Jesse, who presented the wastewater treatment facility's Compliance Maintenance Annual Report, said the plant performed well in all but the influent category, which was downgraded because of industrial loading. The council approved Resolution 26-05 to place the 2025 report on file and asked for follow-up explanation about whether the city can identify or charge specific dischargers.
Other items: Staff reported they received 10 proposals for real estate services tied to the Wisconsin 91 / Wisconsin 49 south to Berlin 911 project (project ID 6540-1-03) and will continue due diligence before recommending a contract. Several consent-agenda items were also approved earlier in the meeting.
