Whitehouse council reviews updates to resident survey, plans spring distribution

The Village of Whitehouse Committee of the Whole on Feb. 10 discussed revisions to a planned resident survey the council expects to launch in spring 2026. President of Council Steve Fine said the village should resume a full survey to track trends since the last full survey in 2024, adding, "it is time to start talking about this topic."
Council members walked through each question and proposed edits to improve clarity and usefulness. Councilman Dave Riggenbach suggested adding new topic options to question two and asked the council to consider a new question on whether respondents expect to leave the village or plan to remain and for how long. Councilman Joe Bublick cautioned that at least one question felt too open-ended and might confuse respondents.
On communications, Fine updated the list of preferred methods to include electronic channels such as email and a village newsletter; he proposed using a newsletter to highlight employees, an idea supported by Councilwoman Carrie Tuohy. In the financial section, council members recommended removing three questions (questions 8–10) that they said were less relevant now than in the 2024 survey. Riggenbach also proposed adding an item asking about interest in serving on village committees or volunteering.
Fine said he will coordinate with village staff on the logistics and "heavy lifting" of producing and distributing the survey. The council did not take a formal vote on the survey revisions during the meeting; members indicated a preference to keep several questions consistent with 2024 to allow trend analysis. The mayor (unnamed in the transcript) later suggested holding the employee-survey discussion in March.
