Williams County Commissioners on Jan. 8 approved using donor-restricted activity funds to trial a pinball machine and a shuffleboard table in the Hillside activity room for residents of the Heights and Village.
Commissioner Scott A. Lirot described a resident survey that prioritized pool (a donated table already installed), pinball and shuffleboard. He told the board a vendor offered a pinball leased at $200 per month and would credit $100 per month toward purchase if the county chooses to buy later. Commissioners discussed lease length and the risk that novelty would wane; one commissioner recommended a six-month trial before committing to purchase.
Clerk Anne M. Retcher asked about documentation; Lirot confirmed an agreement will be drafted and emphasized the funds to pay for the trial come from donor-restricted monies designated for activities, not the county’s general fund. Commissioners voted unanimously to proceed with the trial lease and acquire shuffleboard equipment as appropriate.
Commissioners said they would arrange a site visit and suggested involving local groups (the Rotary) in future visits. The minutes record the motion and roll-call approval; clerk and staff will document the lease agreement and funding source before implementation.
