Council members and the mayor reported progress on discussions about donating the Mark's radio-tower property and advancing a site evaluation needed before the state will consider funding or approval.
The mayor said she met with the sheriff and the county administrator, who will draft donation and ingress/egress language for council review. "She's going to go ahead and draft some language up for the how we donate it and ingress egress," the mayor said, and the draft should return to council for review by September or October.
Officials said a company must perform a site evaluation; the evaluation must be approved by state reviewers before the project can advance. Council members voiced a preliminary timeline that — in a best-case scenario — could see the tower operational by 2026, though they cautioned that the date depends on approvals and site work.
Council members also discussed access: the proposed ingress would run near the lagoons and require culverts or other work across a swale; staff said any stormwater or right-of-way fixes triggered by the project might fall to the village if state funding does not cover them.
Next steps: the county administrator will draft the donation and access language; council will review the draft and, if acceptable, send it to the village solicitor and coordinate a site-evaluation contractor to begin work.
