Resident urges council to consider banning nondisclosure agreements with companies

During the public‑comment period, resident Larry Tur asked the council to consider drafting legislation that would prohibit companies from requiring elected officials, council members or community leaders to sign nondisclosure agreements when negotiating projects in the village.
Larry said NDAs can prevent transparency about company intentions and could, in extreme cases, hide information about accidents such as a train derailment. He urged council to investigate whether a rule or ordinance could bar NDAs that restrict the public’s right to know and said that more transparency would help residents participate effectively in local decisions.
Council did not take formal action on the suggestion during the meeting; members directed public comment speakers to the appropriate committee process and noted the comment for possible future consideration.
