Council approves disc-golf installation, repositions soccer field and endorses sponsored trees; planning commission vacates Westwood Avenue parcel

The West Lafayette village council voted on Nov. 11 to permit several park improvements and to confirm a recent Planning Commission action to vacate a parcel along Westwood Avenue.

Park Board members presented pricing and plans for a metal roof on the rotary pavilion and proposed a nine-hole disc-golf course at Waterworks Park. Council members moved to allow Eagle Ridge Golf Course to handle installation and cover costs; the motion was seconded and approved. The council also voted to move the previously approved soccer field from the northwest corner of Waterworks Park to a new location closer to parking to improve access.

In addition, the council approved a sponsorship program that will allow individuals and organizations to plant trees and install benches around the soccer field; the council noted that benches are not required for the tree sponsorships. Motions on these items were seconded and carried by voice vote.

Separately, the local Planning Commission reported it had voted 4–0 to vacate the property that would have extended Westwood Avenue; the parcel will be owned by Kevin Wright pending completion of required paperwork. The commission’s action was reported to council as passed.

These items were presented as routine park and planning business and were approved during the meeting; staff and Park Board representatives will proceed with coordination and implementation with the private installers and sponsors.
