Police chief announces resignation; council accepts effective Dec. 14

The police chief told the West Lafayette village council on Nov. 11 that his last day of employment will be Dec. 14 and said he is grateful for the opportunity to serve.

The announcement came during the department report, when the chief reviewed October activity and then addressed the council directly. "My last day of employment being December 14th," he said, and added, "I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve the village; it was a great honor coming back to my hometown. I will not be a stranger ... I'll stop up from time to time and I'll provide any assistance needed to the new chief." The chief also noted staffing and operational matters in his department during the report.

Council members responded by moving to accept the resignation. The motion was seconded and carried; members offered public thanks and recognition for the chief's service during and after the vote. The meeting record shows affirmations from multiple council members when the motion was considered.

The council did not announce a timeline or specific plan for hiring or appointing an interim replacement at the meeting. The chief said he intends to remain available to assist the next police chief.

Council members also used the department report to ask about outstanding contracts and other operational matters; staff indicated they were reviewing contracts and would follow up as needed.

The council accepted the resignation and then proceeded with the rest of the agenda.
