Valley View secures grants, accepts bridge and signal work as council moves to speed Alexander Road repairs

Engineer Sciano told council the village received a $2 million federal grant to replace the Fosdick Road bridge; as a condition of the grant the village must complete offsite intersection improvements on the east and west sides of the bridge, including a traffic signal on Canal Road and Fosdick. Council accepted the bid for the Canal Road/Fosdick traffic signal and passed Ordinance 2024-12-7 unanimously.
Sciano also summarized an emergency ordinance (2024-12-6) requesting county cooperation to expedite Alexander Road repairs connected to the Pleasant Valley Road bridge detour. "The mayor secured an extra $750,000.00 towards the project and this is for the grant to move it up to 2025 project and for a million dollars for the benefit of the village toward the project due to the hardship the community is experiencing with traffic," Sciano said. Council approved the emergency ordinance by unanimous vote.
Council also accepted a reimbursable grant of $50,000 for the Exchange Street bridge demolition and passed Ordinance 2024-12-8 to accept the bid. Engineer Sciano later reported that Gleeson Road pavement repairs are complete and should provide five to seven years of service.
The council's approvals formalize obligations under new grant funding and authorize engineering and procurement steps; scheduling and construction timelines were not detailed in the minutes and will be handled by village engineering staff in coordination with Cuyahoga County and grant administrators.
