Atkinson committee advances planning to site new police station behind fire station

The Town of Atkinson Police Station Location Committee on Sept. 16 reviewed preliminary plans to site a new police station behind the fire station and outlined next steps for design, funding and interdepartmental coordination.
The committee voted 6–0 to accept minutes from the May 20 and Sept. 2, 2025 meetings after Charlie George moved to approve and Lenny Hall seconded. Brian Boyle, chair, reported that he, Charlie George and Phil Busby met on Sept. 12 with Chief Crowly of the Atkinson Police Department to review initial siting concepts behind the fire station.
Committee members discussed plans calling for up to a 9,000-square-foot municipal building that could be designated the new police station and fit within an already established proposed footprint. Members described a phased approach to the project that would include studying Industrial Way as a possible location to relocate the Department of Public Works and the town brush dump to support long-term municipal facility planning.
The group identified the need to draft a warrant article for 2026 to finance the next planning steps and engaged Harriman to prepare a complete set of plans for the proposed police department. Members said they need information on well monitoring for the Fire Department lot and requested site-preparation analysis for the Industrial Way option. Chair Brian Boyle and committee member Phil Busby were tasked to meet with Chief Thomas of the Atkinson Fire Department and Ted Stewart of Public Works to gather input and comments.
The committee began preparing a presentation for the Board of Selectmen and scheduled its next meeting for Sept. 23, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m.
