Village to seek temporary building‑department support to clear permit backlog

A trustee characterized the situation as an emergency: "we don't have anybody who's processing anything, processing anything, in the building department, and I must get 10 complaints a day for people waiting for their permits," the trustee said. The proposal would use salary savings from the vacant inspector position to finance short‑term contract support while the department is reorganized and a permanent hire is sought.
Trustees asked staff to provide a contracting proposal, fee schedule and a scope of work; staff said the consultant could begin quickly and that initial work would focus on plan review and permit processing to reduce resident complaints and long wait times.
Next steps: staff will return with a contract proposal and recommended scope and budget so trustees can consider approving short‑term support at the regular meeting.
