Versailles council authorizes major equipment purchases and engineering contracts for 2025 CIP
Summary
Council authorized the purchase of a Caterpillar 308 CR excavator, permitted negotiation with GPD Group for McGreevey Road electrical design, approved Access Engineering contracts for three CIP projects, awarded tree trimming and building-repair contracts, and authorized purchase of a 1500 kVA copper-wound padmount transformer.
At its Feb. 26 meeting, the Versailles Village Council authorized a series of capital purchases and contracts tied to the village’s 2025 Capital Improvement Plan.
Village Administrator Francis presented three Sourcewell quotes to replace a 2012 Case backhoe: Ohio Cat (Cat 308 CR) at $147,281; Murphy Tractor (John Deere 85-P) at $140,852.73; and Columbus Equipment (Komatsu PC88MR-11) at $131,940. Staff tested each machine and operators favored the Cat 308 for controls and cab comfort. Council authorized purchase of the Caterpillar 308 CR through Ohio Cat on a unanimous vote.
Council also authorized the administrator to enter contracts with Access Engineering for the South Center Street Area Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project – Phase I, the Greenlawn Cemetery Area Waterline Improvements Project, and North West Street Extension Phase II as listed in the 2025 CIP. The Finance & Audit Committee recommendation to negotiate an electrical engineering agreement with GPD Group for McGreevey Road substation work was approved; Sawvel & Associates had recommended GPD based on prior local experience.
Other procurement actions included awarding the 2025 Street R/W Tree Trimming Project to Grilliot Tree Trimming & Stump Grinding and contracting Brian Bros for exterior repairs and painting of the Administrative Building (Brian Bros quote $29,972). Council authorized purchase of a 1500 kVA 480/277V padmount transformer from T&R Electric for $61,687 after noting the copper-wound unit met the heavy-industrial rating required for village use.
All procurement motions were approved unanimously by council members present. Follow-up steps include formal contract negotiation and bid/advertisement processes where required.
