Waite Hill Police Chief Carl Dondorfer told Council the department recently assisted the federal government with a search at an Eagle Road property that lasted about nine hours. The department will purchase portable radios with assistance from ARPA grant funds, Chief Dondorfer said, and Lieutenant Gerics is scheduled to attend the FBI Academy in January.
The chief also reported that Lake County’s migration to Next Generation 911 should provide improved cellular 911 service for village residents. The Waite Hill Police Department has received certification from the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory, and the village’s Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) — described as similar to Reverse 911 — is going live to allow targeted alerting of residents in specific portions of the village.
Council did not record substantive debate on these items in the minutes. The procurement of portable radios was presented as funded in part by ARPA grant money; no contract award or vendor name was recorded in the minutes.
