Westerville treasurer Nicole Marshall honored with three statewide finance awards

Katie Johnson, executive director of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, told the board that Marshall had earned "not one, not two, but three of our statewide awards" at the association's annual conference and that the honors were on display. Johnson said the awards included the Treasurer of the Year recognition, the regional Distinguished Service Award, and the Chuck Gosset Advocacy Award for legislative advocacy on behalf of public education.
The recognition also noted a long record of clean audits: speakers said the treasurer's office has been awarded the state Otter Award with distinction for 13 consecutive years following audits with no findings or citations, a record Johnson described as evidence of consistent fiscal stewardship and transparency.
Johnson read excerpts from nominations by Marshall's peers, saying colleagues described her as a leader who "set the standard for professionalism, leadership, and advocacy in school finance." She also credited Marshall's advocacy at the statehouse, saying it had recently affected pending legislation: Johnson said Marshall "as recently as last week" helped stop a fast-tracked bill that Johnson characterized as having potentially serious implications for schools across Ohio.
Marshall responded that she was "definitely overwhelmed when Katie called" with the news and expressed gratitude to the board, the district leadership team and staff for their support, saying she could not do the work alone. The board and meeting participants offered congratulations before the agenda moved on.
The awards highlight the district's finance office work on audits, forecasting and community engagement; presenters emphasized Marshall's outreach to parents and lawmakers through town halls, PTA meetings and finance-committee presentations.
