Police, service and charter review updates noted; council recesses for executive session on property

Chief Carl Dondorfer, reporting for the Safety Committee, reviewed monthly statistics and said the boundary adjustment project has been completed. He noted Lt. Gerics is graduating from the FBI academy this week, the Village phone system will need an upgrade, and a residence on Metcalf Road is in violation for not removing marked trees. The minutes also record that Willoughby Hills EMS had made six runs so far this year.
Service Director Bob Haynik told council the Village had significant road salt usage this winter. He said a new service truck is being assembled for delivery in late 2025 and that another older truck will be replaced by next winter.
Stephanie Winterer, reporting for the Charter Review Commission, said two meetings had been held and topics included whether employees should have a right to counsel if discipline is imposed (but not at Village expense) and consideration of making permanent a temporary levy covering police, fire, EMS and other public services.
Later in the meeting, Council member Karl Scheucher moved and Brian Doty seconded a recess to executive session to discuss acquisition, leasing or disposition of Village property; the roll call was unanimous and the council recessed at 9:02 a.m. The meeting reconvened at 9:57 a.m. with adjournment recorded at that time.
