Board sets July 31 application deadline and Aug. 20 interviews to fill departing member Dana’s seat

Board members discussed publication timing for a vacancy notice and agreed staff should run the notice in the newspaper (suggested dates July 11 and July 18). The board set July 31, 2024 as the deadline to submit letters of interest and scheduled interviews for the regular Aug. 20 meeting, to begin at 5:30 p.m. The board voted to adopt the vacancy resolution as presented.
During remarks, departing member Dana urged the board to improve public access to district boundary information and to clarify board policy language that defines eligibility for service. Dana recommended obtaining a navigable map for the district web page so residents can zoom and identify streets and shown boundaries; she also suggested the board review and, if necessary, clarify policy language that governs who is eligible to serve and the process for filling seats. "I would maybe urge our board to connect with the Archuleta County Planning Department and see if we could get a navigable map on our website in our board section so that people can know and understand not just if they're eligible for board seats but also who represents them," Dana said.
Board staff acknowledged those suggestions and noted they would follow up. The meeting closed with expressions of appreciation for Dana's service and a formal adjournment.
