Archuleta County School District board adopts 2024–25 budget, adds funding for second special-education teacher

The Archuleta County School District No. 50 Jt Board of Education approved its 2024–25 appropriations budget and the accompanying resolution authorizing the use of beginning fund balances at its June 25 meeting.

District staff presented a budget summary and said there were no changes to program funding, per-pupil funding or revenue projections; the only ledger change was a small increase on the expense side to fund a second new special-education teacher. "There were no changes to the program funding to the per pupil funding or the revenue, just a slight increase on the expense side to account for the second new special education teacher," said Eric, a district staff member who reviewed the budget summary.

The board moved to approve the appropriations resolution, the resolution to use beginning fund balances and the accompanying salary schedules in a single motion. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all present members voting in favor.

Board members did not raise additional questions during the meeting and staff said the two document formats (PDF and Excel) contained the same figures. The district did not specify the exact dollar amount of the expense increase in the public discussion; meeting materials referenced a minor increase to cover the additional special-education position but the transcript does not present a clear, itemized figure.

With the budget approved, district staff will proceed with implementing the 2024–25 appropriations and salary schedules as adopted by the board.
