Board rescinds prior action and appoints David Iverson to District 4

The Archuleta County School District No. 50 Jt board rescinded a prior appointment and reconstituted its selection process before voting to appoint David Iverson to its District 4 seat.

At a special meeting called to order by the board chair, members voted to rescind the earlier appointment, citing a procedural error at the prior meeting. The chair said the board would pick up the process at the point where the candidate interviews had concluded and asked members to rank the two remaining applicants solely on the interviews.

Board members then announced their rankings. Mr Lynch said he ranked David Iverson first and Andrew Granson second; Mr Macky ranked Granson first and Iverson second; Mrs Shick ranked Iverson first and Granson second; and Mr Taylor ranked Iverson first. The chair tallied the results and said Iverson received three first-place rankings and one second-place ranking, making him the top-ranked candidate.

A board member moved to appoint David Iverson to the District 4 seat; another member seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote, with Mr Lynch, Mr Macky, Mrs Shick and Mr Taylor each voting yes. The chair announced the motion carried and that Iverson was appointed to the board.

After the vote, the newly seated member recited the oath of office, saying, "I will faithfully perform the duties of the office of school director ... and will support the Constitution of the United States [and] the Constitution of the state of Colorado and laws made pursuant thereto." The chair thanked both applicants for applying and the meeting was adjourned.

The board’s action reinstates the appointment process and results in David Iverson filling the District 4 vacancy. No additional background materials or deliberations beyond the recorded rankings and vote were referenced during the meeting.
