Archuleta board sets July 31 deadline for applicants to fill vacant seat; interviews Aug. 20

Interviews are scheduled for the board's regular meeting on Aug. 20, 2024, with the board planning to begin interviews at 5:30 p.m.
The board action followed discussion of logistics and timing: members said they wanted reasonable notice yet a prompt process so the replacement could be selected before the August meeting. The board voted by roll call to adopt the vacancy resolution.
Departing member Dana addressed colleagues and offered recommendations for improving public access and clarity around board districts and appointment policy. Dana urged the board to work with the Archuleta County Planning Department to obtain an interactive, zoomable district map for the district website so residents could determine eligibility and representation. "I would maybe urge our board to connect with the Archuleta County Planning Department and see if we could get a navigable map on our website ... so that people can know and understand not just if they're eligible for board seats but also who represents them," Dana said.
Dana also recommended clarifying board policy language that defines eligibility and the process for filling seats so future applicants understand who may serve. Board members thanked Dana for her service, offered best wishes on her new job and closed with farewells.
What happens next The board secretary and district staff will post the vacancy notice and accept letters of interest through July 31, then prepare candidate materials for the Aug. 20 meeting. The board's resolution directs staff to publish the notice and to schedule interviews on the stated date and time.
