HydroMint representatives demonstrated a compact flood-warning station that combines a weather station, water-level sensors, a still-image camera and a data logger to transmit alerts over cellular service. The vendor said the package would give village emergency personnel and residents timely data and image “eyes on” a site ahead of flooding events.
"What we're really doing is kind of looking at water level, precipitation, and then getting eyes on with a camera for the ability to track data," the vendor representative said, explaining that crews could set alarm thresholds and distribute alerts to critical personnel and residents.
The company said the camera is not continuous video but will take still images; it can be set to capture photos at short intervals during an alarm. "A minute is the practical limit. Probably two minutes is more reasonable," Dan Penczak, who the presenter identified as a HydroMint staff member, added when asked how frequently cameras could capture images.
On costs, the presenter gave several figures tied to system options: about $7,500 per station for the full radar-equipped solution, roughly $6,800 if the village substitutes a pressure transducer, and a quoted recurring annual service of $453 per station. "So for the 1st year to get everything up and running, you're looking at approximately $33,000," the vendor said when summarizing equipment and setup for the proposed set of stations.
The vendor said the stations are solar-powered with battery backup, use cellular telemetry for transmission, and retain data in the HydroMint Cloud for administrative and public dashboards. For maintenance the company offered a two-year equipment warranty and field-service support; travel and local scheduling could affect technician response times.
Trustees asked about site compatibility and enforcement; the presenter pointed to three candidate sites (Jefferson, Center Avenue and the reservoir dam) and noted that radar level sensors can be mounted under bridges while submersible pressure transducers can be used where appropriate. The presentation concluded with an offer to answer follow-up questions and provide a more detailed proposal if the village pursued procurement.
