Surry and neighboring towns get $173,000 grant for climate-resilience leadership work

The Select Board opened its May 7 meeting with an announcement that the Town of Surry, together with the towns of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Deer Isle, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Stonington, was awarded a $173,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future to fund climate-resilience leadership development.
Mary, chair of the Select Board, said the towns plan to collaborate to improve community quality of life in the face of climate change and that part of the money will support the search for an early-in-career hire as part of Peninsula Tomorrow’s goal to cultivate new climate-response leadership.
The board did not discuss detailed allocations during the meeting. Mary said partnership and hiring are next steps; staff and the board will return with further plans as details are developed.
