Surry schedules Feb. 6 public hearing on updated Comprehensive Plan ahead of April vote

The Select Board announced on Jan. 7 that the Comprehensive Plan Committee will hold the first required public hearing on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Surry School Gym. Irene Schmidt said the committee began meeting in 2022, conducted community engagement including surveys and listening sessions, and received state approval for the plan last fall.
Mary Allen noted that state funding applications commonly prioritize towns with up-to-date comprehensive plans; without an approved plan, towns risk lower priority for state grants. The committee expects two public hearings before the plan goes to a town vote on April 11.
Why it matters: an adopted comprehensive plan helps shape local land-use planning, funding eligibility and long-term town priorities. Residents are encouraged to review the plan (available at the Town Office and on the town website) and attend the Feb. 6 hearing.
