The Town of Surry Select Board voted unanimously on Feb. 19 to transfer $15,703 from an older capital reserve account into the municipal capital outlay account and to form a short‑term volunteer task group to support discrete projects.
Tom Welgoss, treasurer, said the capital reserve account dated back to about 2011 and, per the most recent audit (June 30, 2023), held a balance of $15,703. "I move to transfer the balance of $15,703 in the capital reserve account as of the last audit to the municipal capital outlay account," Welgoss said; Chris Stark seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Mary Allen described a volunteer resource group proposed by residents to assist the Select Board on short‑term projects without requiring a recurring meeting commitment. "Volunteers wouldn't have to commit to weekly or monthly meetings," Allen said, and the board agreed to define the group's tasks at a later meeting. Tom Welgoss moved to organize the volunteer task group and to define the task at a subsequent meeting; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved a personnel/committee appointment: Tom Welgoss moved to accept Diana Merenda to the Finance Committee; Chris Stark seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board handled the routine approvals of the Feb. 5 and Feb. 7 meeting minutes by unanimous votes earlier in the session. Warrant approval was tabled for a future meeting, and the board adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
