Police report: festival coverage, Lexipol updates and license-plate-reader discussion at council meeting

For the upcoming French Creek Festival, Erie County detectives will fund overtime and provide two to three officers from the Erie County courthouse, and the chief said he has requested additional coverage from Corry PSP.
Pernice said he is completing a Civil Service background check with a target completion date of July 5 and that he has been working with Lexipol to update departmental policies; he said the solicitor is reviewing those changes and the department is removing policies that are not needed.
During discussion of an amendment to the parking ordinance (front-end parking in Municipal Lot No. 2), Chief Pernice described License Plate Reader capabilities, saying the system can search plates and assist investigations beyond local jurisdictions. Council asked Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips to review the lot layout and angled parking options before taking further action. The council deferred any ordinance changes until staff can present solicitor-reviewed language.
