Union City Borough Council accepted a $100,000 ECGRA Renaissance grant and approved a set of local Renaissance grant awards during its June 25 meeting.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells told council that six Renaissance grant applications totaling $27,127.65 were received. With $18,425.49 available for the current grant period, the manager recommended approving four applications totaling $17,675 and carrying two applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024/2025 grant period. Council voted unanimously to accept the recommendation.
Manager Wells also reported that the Union City Volunteer Fire Department repaid its full ambulance loan of $59,250. The council acknowledged the repayment during the manager’s miscellaneous updates.
On municipal banking, council approved opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 from the borough’s capital equipment account at Northwest to earn a higher interest rate; Councilor Kerns moved the action and Councilor Steadman seconded it. The motion carried unanimously.
Council also approved posting removed playground equipment for sale on Municibid after a motion by Councilor Kerns and seconded by Councilor Steadman. The meeting packet did not include names of individual Renaissance grant applicants or details of the specific improvements funded; council said approved projects were selected because they would help fight blight.
Council did not take action on zoning changes or parking ordinance amendments at this meeting.
