Council asks administration for cost and funding options as ODOT roundabout proposal advances

KENTON, Ohio — As a proposed ODOT roundabout at the Route 68/31 corridor gains momentum, Kenton City Council on May 13 asked the mayor and administration to assemble cost estimates, potential funding sources and answers to council questions before a focused briefing at the next regular meeting.
President Joel Althauser said the council must decide how much the city would be willing to contribute and urged members to forward public questions to Mayor Lynn Webb and Safety Service Director Cindy Murray so staff can prepare. "This is not something the City of Kenton is interested in spending the lion's share of the cost on," Althauser said, adding that if the project is important for the state corridor, state funding should play a significant role. He asked council members to come to the next meeting prepared with a framework for any local contribution.
Councilman David Beazley asked whether in-kind donations — such as city crews' labor or property the city owns — could be counted toward the municipality's share. Administration agreed to address that and other fiscal questions in the briefing. No formal vote was taken; Mayor Webb and Safety Service Director Murray will prepare information and present it at a future meeting.
